Volunteering

For us at SOS Children’s Villages, volunteering is an integral part of our work, as it embodies the fundamental humanitarian values that we ourselves uphold.

Our volunteers are active in the programs we run in Athens, Alexandroupoli, Heraklion, Thessaloniki, Ioannina, Kalamata, Komotini, and Patras, following training and continuous support from professionals in the field where they provide their services.

Voluntary work in our various programs is an essential component that complements, and never replaces, the professional scientific and psycho-educational work of our staff.

Our volunteers provide support services and contribute to the more effective operation of our programs:

Saving time for the benefit of the professionals
Creating networks of people within the wider community
Promoting the work of SOS Children’s Villages
Transmitting “new information” within SOS Children’s Villages

Is volunteering only about giving?

For all of us at SOS Children’s Villages, the answer is that volunteers are entitled to receive moral and emotional satisfaction and recognition for the work they contribute, within an organized and structured framework.

It is important for the volunteer to feel that they are also growing as a person through their contribution.

How can I help?

Those who initially wish to volunteer and can be utilized to the fullest extent based on their individual skills, knowledge, and the needs of our programs are selected.

The main areas of volunteer activity are two:

a) Educational support for children (provided by students or professional educators)

b) Support for specific functions of the Organization:

Administrative Roles
Raising awareness about the work of SOS Children’s Villages
Participation in the organization and execution of bazaars and other events we host
Creating support groups in various cities where we run programs
Shaping the physical environment in our facilities
Assisting in the organization and arrangement of our warehouse materials
